The South African moderate-conservative columnist opines about how politicians in his country and in Nigeria are debating about the number of provinces, when they should instead be focused on slashing corruption: "The truth is that Nigeria's problems really have nothing to do with the
structure of the state. Nigeria's problems have everything to do with
the fact that its leaders have failed to grapple with the rampant
corruption that one finds at virtually every level of society. The
problem of Nigeria over the decades since it achieved independence is
leadership. It's our problem too."
More: "Our leaders have signally failed to show any leadership in respect of the myriad problems we face. Instead, they want to nationalise the mines and target more sectors
for government intervention. They continue to fail to face rioting
residents in squatter camps and burning mining communities. In South Africa and in Nigeria, leaders want to change the constitution. Citizens should know by now that people who want to change constitutions are people who need to be changed. Fast."
