| Jones: "watch for me in 2014!" |
Those of you who thought that you had seen the last of Lolo Jones....think again. She has switched sports and is training in Lake Placid, N.Y. right now, so you can count on the media following her quest to become an Olympic gold-winning bobsledder. From Yahoo! Sports: "Bobsled coach Todd Hays invited several track Olympians to speak to
prospective team members as an inspiration, and also as a not-so-subtle
way to test their willingness and skill at the bobsled pushing slot.
Jones took the bait, and in her very first night of competitive pushing,
shoved pilot Jazmine Fenlator to a combined two-run time of 1:57.01.
That was good enough for second place, only 0.05 seconds behind the
leaders. 'It's a new sport for me and there's a ton of room for improvement,' Jones
told Sports Illustrated. 'I'm coming in here trying to learn everything quickly. I'm looking forward to fixing some things and hammering it out.'"
Booker Rising response: I just
knew ol' girl was gonna go this route. She ain't getting any younger, and her hurdling prospects for 2016 didn't look good. However, many track & field athletes —
such as Vonetta Flowers — have successfully (and fairly quickly) converted into Olympic-winning bobsledders. As a 100-meter hurdler, Lolo obviously has speed so she certainly has potential to be a great brakewoman.
