From The Citizen (Georgia), about the moderate-liberal Democratic Congressman from Georgia: "Scott in his remarks combined the upcoming presidential election with
a view back in time to the history of the NAACP. He laid the groundwork
for his comments by citing the work of 19th century abolitionist and
women’s rights activist Sojourner Truth. 'We’ve got to be a sojourner for truth,' Scott said, then bringing
the Nov. 6 election into focus. 'We’re faced with difficult days. You’ve
got to make sure the first black president is not a one-term
president. That’s our task. We’re the NAACP. This president has done a
remarkable job.'"
More from his speech at a local NAACP event in Atlanta metro: "Returning to the upcoming election, Scott said, 'This election is for
our future.' Citing an example of the implications for the future,
Scott said the next president will likely appoint the next two or three
justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. Advocating for a second term for Obama, Scott noted the necessity of
having a tax code that is fair for everyone and the provision under
Obamacare that requires insurance companies to accept pre-existing
conditions. Scott using another example said AIDS is a pre-existing
condition, one that is a leading cause of death among black women of
child-bearing age."
