Asserts the conservative Republican Congressman from South Carolina: "Congressman Tim Scott (R-SC) today called on the U.S. Department of Defense to reclassify the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, TX as an act of terrorism. 'With all due respect to those at DOD, it is clear that the attack on Fort Hood was a terrorist attack,' Scott said. 'To classify this terrible tragedy as ‘workplace violence’ is not only counterintuitive to the details we know regarding this case, but is a slap in the face to the victims.'"
More from Rep. Scott's statement: "Scott continued, 'It is important, for a multitude of reasons, to both the victims of the attacks and their families that the attack be described as terrorism. Our military justice system works so that those charged with a crime are presumed innocent, and I have full confidence that Major Hasan [the shooter] will receive the same treatment in court regardless of how the event is characterized by DOD. Therefore, I ask that DOD reverse course on this matter and call this tragedy what it truly was – an act of terrorism.'"
