While Mitt Romney instead used the term "gifts", handouts is what he really meant. About 70% of America's voters are white. Some 40% of those white folks voted for Obama. Why no focus on them as well? Also, where are the prominent black conservative folks? Why do I only see Bobby Jindal (who is from a minority group, but not one with any sizeable national influence) out here challenging it? Also, what are these "gifts" that Obama has given black folks, when the man ain't done a damn thing for black folks? So yes, Mitt gets the side-eye from me. Folks weigh in on the debate:
YES: Mitt Romney: "I Lost Because Of Obama's Gifts"
From the Minneapolis Star, about the moderate-conservative Republican presidential candidate's controversial comments: "Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is telling top donors that President Barack Obama
won re-election because of the 'gifts' he had already provided to
blacks, Hispanics and young voters and because of the president’s effort
to paint Romney as anti-immigrant. 'The president’s campaign, if you
will, focused on giving targeted groups a big gift,' Romney said in a
call to donors on Wednesday. 'He made a big effort on small things.'"
NO: Bobby Jindal: "Mitt, You're Wrong"
The Louisiana governor and conservative Republican ain't buying the explanation. From ANI: "'That is absolutely wrong,' Jindal said at Wednesday's session of the annual Republican Governors Association meeting in Las Vegas, adding: 'I absolutely reject that notion'."
More: "'I don't think that represents where we are as a party and where we're going as a party,' Jindal continued. 'That has got to be one of the most fundamental takeaways from this election:
If we're going to continue to be a competitive party and win elections
on the national stage and continue to fight for our conservative
principles, we need two messages to get out loudly and clearly: One, we
are fighting for 100 percent of the votes, and secondly, our policies
benefit every American who wants to pursue the American dream. Period.
No exceptions,' the Huffington Post quoted Jindal, as saying."
YES: Samuel Gonzalez: "Romney Is Right"
The conservative Republican blogger in New York argues that it was hard for Mr. Romney to compete with Santa Claus: "Obama won the election with the promise of “free stuff”. That’s how shallow this country has become.
President Kennedy famously once said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country!” President Obama has turned that sentiment upside down, and it’s not for the better.
NO: DarkStar: "Romney Is Trippin'"
The moderate-conservative blogger in Maryland writes: "Let's see. Forgiveness of college loans hasn't been done, so how is that a gift? Also, Romney said he would push for increasing Pell Grants and offering more of them. And then there is ObamaCare, which Romney said there are aspects that he liked and wanted to keep, like, ohhhhh, increased dependent coverage age! and portability! I wonder what his 'minority outreach' person, Tara Wall, has to say about his comments. Yo! Mitt Romney! I got your GIFTS! Right! HERE! [ insert crotch grab here ]"
