| "Y'all better get prepared to call me Rep. Mia Love" |
If this poll holds, Mia Love will unseat the six-term Democratic Congressman and become USA's first black Republican woman in Congress. She will also become Utah's first black Congressional representative, from either political party. Why? Ms. Love has kept her fundraising at pace or ahead of the Congressman, she has virtually eliminated Rep. Matheson's typical crossover appeal with his Republican constituents, and she has a 16-point advantage with female voters. From the Salt Lake Tribune: "The Tribune poll, conducted by Mason-Dixon
Polling & Research, found that the coalition of Democrats,
independents, moderate Republicans and women that [Rep. Jim] Matheson has united in
past elections is failing to coalesce this time around, with just 9
percent of Republicans crossing over to support him."
More: "Matheson is trailing badly among women, who favor Love — Matheson’s
first female challenger — by a 54 percent to 38 percent margin,
according to the Tribune poll. Matheson has routinely won by double
digits among women voters."
