As mentioned yesterday, the conservative Republican Congressman refuses to concede the race to Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy, due to a very slim vote margin. From the Palm Beach Post: "Motions for injunctions were filed in St. Lucie and Palm Beach
counties. Information wasn’t immediately available from Martin County,
the third county in congressional District 18."
More: "West trails Murphy by 2,456 votes or 0.78 percent. That’s not close
enough to trigger a state law that requires a recount for races decided
by 0.5 percent or less. But West claims irregularities in the way St.
Lucie County counted its early ballots [due to a changing vote tally after a recount involving a memory card and 37,000 early ballots]."
UPDATE: Rep. Allen West says that the close election ain't the most stressful thing for him. From the Washington Post: "'I’ve been in combat, so this is not a stressful situation for me,'
said West, a former Army colonel. The outspoken congressman has filed a motion asking a judge to impound ballots and voting machines for a possible recount. 'I’m not entitled to anything,' he said, but it was his job to
protect the freedom to vote. 'We want to make sure we have a fair
electoral process.'"
