Lenny McAllister Running For Jesse Jackson Jr.'s Old Seat

Hat tip to Hen Cole for alerting me to this news. Regular Booker Rising readers are aware of Lenny McAllister. Well, the conservative Republican is running for the U.S. Congress: "Nationally-renowned political commentator and community advocate Lenny McAllister announced today that he will run for the seat in Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District currently vacant after the resignation of Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. McAllister calls for the people of the district to look beyond career politicians and accept a candidate who can reach across the aisle for bipartisan accountability and accessibility. 'The Second Congressional District – like much of America – finds itself at a set of critical crossroads. In this time of economic crisis, political upheaval, community endangerment, and partisan gridlock, the constituents need leadership beyond limiting labels,' said McAllister."

Booker Rising response: Full disclosure: One of my uncles (a Democratic state legislator) might be running in this special election. I'm not trying to be funny because I've met Lenny before and he is cool with me, but I must ask: did Lenny resolve that $37,000 child support issue and arrest warrant from a couple of years ago? Because his electoral opponents will surely bring it up during the campaign. Count on it. From his press release, it sounds like Lenny might not live in the 2nd Congressional District (although it isn't required by law, it could certainly become a campaign issue) or have consistently lived in Chicago: "The McAllister family resided along the 2nd District border in Hyde Park during their time in Chicago, and will likely move closer into the district."
