Bookerista Congressmen Vote On Fiscal Cliff Deal

Last last night the vote was held. As reported late last week, Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) supported the fiscal cliff deal. The moderate-liberal Democrat has not released a statement about his "yes" vote. The two black conservative Republicans in the U.S. Congress voted no:

Rep. Tim Scott: "It Doesn't Focus Enough On Spending Cuts"

The recently-crowned 2012 Bookerista Of The Year and U.S. Senate-Designate issued a statement about why he voted no: "Without question, I am happy that hard working, middle class Americans will not be faced with the prospect of the federal government taking more of their hard earned dollars out of their pockets. The mistakes of the past should not be balanced on their backs. But revenues have not been the problem, are not the problem, and will not be the problem."

Congressman Scott's statement continues about the deal: "It is easy to plan for today, today. It is a much tougher proposition to plan for tomorrow, today. However, that is what we must do. We cannot allow Washington’s out of control spending to continue. And that is what this deal does. For every dollar in spending cuts, there are 41 dollars in tax hikes. The can continues to be kicked down the road – a road that leads to our children’s and grandchildren’s future."

Rep. Allen West: "It Doesn't Support Economic Growth Or Deficit Reduction"

The conservative Republican released a statement on his Facebook page, about his "No" vote: "Raising taxes in order to increase federal government spending is illogical, and disrespectful to all hard-working American families. Sure, I support the 'doc fix' and AMT solution, but again the DC way is to make a pot of gumbo and believe that it will taste good to enough people. The American people deserve better."

More: "No one's taxes need increase and this Senate legislation does not promote economic growth, debt/deficit reduction, or spending discipline, which should be our main goals. The House has sent countless pieces of legislation, good policy, to the Senate which sits idly on Harry Reid's desk. For the Democrat-led Senate to disregard its most basic Constitutional responsibility and then jam a last-hour cobbled-together 100 pages of nonsense to the House of Representatives is offensive. The future of our children and the promise to our next generation suffers due to extreme incompetence. The liberal progressive rhetoric sounds sweet to the ear but we continue to witness failure. The day is coming when principled pragmatic Constitutional Conservatives will be sought after to restore the American Republic, and we will answer the call."
